Alejandro Garnacho Reveals Why He Didn’t Celebrate Goal Against Leicester City

Manchester United’s young Argentine star Alejandro Garnacho chose not to celebrate after scoring in the 3-0 win over Leicester City, explaining that it was due to recent criticism from fans. Following his goal, Garnacho appeared somber in front of Old Trafford’s Stretford End, a reaction that sparked conversation among supporters and teammates alike.

After the match, Garnacho addressed his subdued reaction, saying, “Please, stop criticizing me. I beg you… I play for this club with all my heart, but it’s hard when people lose faith.” His emotional plea reveals a deep frustration with the scrutiny he’s faced recently.

United’s captain Bruno Fernandes, who noticed Garnacho’s response, shared that he spoke to the 20-year-old, reminding him of the ups and downs of fan expectations. “I told him people will always moan, but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do,” Fernandes said. “I encouraged him to celebrate—it was a great goal. He’s a special player, and we rely on players like him to change games.”

Despite his recent struggles with criticism, Garnacho has been one of United’s standout performers this season, even drawing praise from interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. Van Nistelrooy decided to bring Garnacho off the bench to keep him fresh, hoping the substitution would inspire the young forward. “I wanted him to make an impact, and he did exactly that,” Van Nistelrooy commented.

Garnacho’s plea and Fernandes’ support have resonated with fans, who hope the young star will continue to shine for United without feeling the weight of public scrutiny.
