Tiger Woods’ son Charlie told to ‘relax’ by golf coach amid comparison to PGA Tour legend

Charlie Woods helped his Florida high school golf team finish second in a recent post-season tournament but was handed some wise words of wisdom as his famous dad watched on

Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, has been told to “just relax and play” by his high school golf coach after noticing “tough” similarities to the PGA Tour legend.

The 15-year-old helped Benjamin School to an impressive second-place finish at the Class 1A Region 4 tournament at a windy Miami Shores Country Club on Monday, securing its place in next week’s state championships just days after securing the district honors.

Despite a slow start, however, the Buccaneers stormed home to finish four shots back on 3-under par, falling only behind Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest which won the event with a combined score of 7-under par.

Charlie carded an individual round of level par and watching on with a keen eye was his father and 15-time major champion Tiger, who made sure to keep his distance in his golf cart and only reportedly chatted briefly with his son after he made a birdie on the 12th.

While the teenager refused to comment following the action, his coach Toby Harbeck was keen to make his feelings known about his progression in the game – and what he needs to do to reach the same levels as his dad.

Speaking to Palm Beach Post, Harbeck said: “He’s tough on himself. If he could just relax and play, store some of that energy, it’s good. He’s just young. He’s got a lot of Dad in him.”

Following in the footsteps of a parent who is arguably the greatest golfer of all time was never going to be an easy feat but at just 15, Charlie appears to be heading in the right direction and destined to become a pro.

While the comparisons to his dad will always be there, the youngster must simply focus on the task at hand – and that’s to secure another trophy next week when Benjamin School competes in the state championships.

The ‘Buccaneers’ will be aiming for a second straight tournament victory and a fifth overall when they take to the course at the Mission R
