Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane raised a toast after Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Trump was the president from 2016 to 2020.

Although Kane is Canadian, he paid close attention to the elections and posted a photo on his Instagram story of him raising a glass following Trump’s win.

Trump’s election is historic as he is only the second president in US history to lose his reelection bid and be reelected after. Trump lost to Joe Biden in 2020 but four years later, he is set to become the 47th president.

The first president to accomplish the feat was Stephen Grover Cleveland, who served from 1885 to 1889. He lost in 1889 but won it again in 1893.

Evander Kane has yet to play in a game this season due to offseason surgery.

He had surgery to repair two torn hip adductor muscles, two hernias and two torn lower abdominal muscles.

“I felt something was wrong in late October,” Kane said on Sept. 23, via NHL.com. “I noticed something, and it just kind of slowly got worse over time. Probably in December or January, it was getting much worse. But at the same time, the thing with this injury is that some days you feel better than others.

“Obviously in the [Stanley Cup] Playoffs, by the time we got around to that, it wasn’t any better, it was getting severely worse. At the same time, you’re trying to do anything you can because you want to give yourself and your teammates the best opportunity to win. That’s what I was trying to do.”

There is no timetable for Kane’s return but the expectation is sometime in 2025. Kane is entering the third season of a four-year $20.5 million contract.

Kane has skated in 930 career games with 326 goals and 291 assists for 617 points.
