Kelly Piquet , Max Verstappen ‘s girlfriend , has taken to Instagram to lash out at the FIA . The Brazilian, who is watching her boyfriend drive her home race this weekend, believes the governing body did not act correctly in qualifying on Sunday morning, which meant Max Verstappen had to start at the back of the field.
The Dutchman had a strong qualifying session, feeling strong in his RB20, but things went completely wrong for Verstappen in the second session. A red flag after the crash of Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll prevented him from setting a good time and he had to settle for twelfth place – which becomes seventeenth place after his engine penalty.
But that’s not the big problem. In the eyes of Verstappen and Piquet, the way the FIA brought out the red flag was not correct. It took more than fifty seconds before action was actually taken, while the other crashes immediately became a red flag situation. It was yet another setback for Red Bull from the FIA this weekend, which is why Piquet has now lashed out on Instagram.
Kelly Piquet is furious
Like friend Max Verstappen, who made it clear that he was fed up with the way the FIA handled this , Piquet says on her social media that it is unbelievable that it took so long for the FIA to take action. The Brazilian writes:
“40 seconds waiting to wave a red flag… Very good, FIA!”
