Emotional farewell: Max Verstappen sends heartfelt message to Lewis Hamilton as FIA investigation looms over Mercedes star’s F1 hiatus

In a turn of events that left fans and the F1 community stunned, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton hinted at a potential break from Formula 1 after a disappointing showing at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton struggled throughout the weekend, failing to advance to Q3 and barely securing a point, all while facing mounting issues with Mercedes’ performance. The weekend only got worse as he and Mercedes were placed under FIA investigation.

After Hamilton’s remarks about possibly stepping away from F1, Max Verstappen, a fierce competitor and one-time rival, sent him a heartfelt message that resonated with fans worldwide. Verstappen shared, “Lewis has been a legend in this sport, and no one can ever replace the legacy he’s built. Whatever he chooses to do next, he has my respect and support. I hope he finds the happiness and peace he’s looking for.”

Hamilton’s recent performances have been marred by difficulties with his car and a grueling season that has seen him consistently outperformed by teammate George Russell in qualifying. He expressed his frustrations candidly post-race, acknowledging Mercedes’ struggles and the team’s hard work while also hinting at his own need for a break.

Hamilton’s statement to Sky Sports after the Brazilian GP reflected his exhaustion and disappointment: “We were just slow. It was really tough, and I feel for the team because they put in so much work. But this car, it’s like a plank of wood—it just bounces everywhere, and it’s been one of the worst weekends for us.” Hamilton’s comment about “happily going on holiday” sparked speculation that he may indeed step back, especially with an upcoming move to Ferrari in 2025.

As Hamilton’s future in F1 remains uncertain, Verstappen’s supportive message serves as a reminder of the deep respect between rivals and the legacy that Hamilton has built in the sport.
