Lando Norris has called on the FIA to introduce new rules to limit Max Verstappen’s aggressive defensive driving style, following their controversial battle at the United States Grand Prix. The incident, which occurred at Turn 12 on lap 52, saw both drivers go off the track as Norris attempted an overtake on the outside. Although Norris stayed ahead momentarily, he was penalized with a five-second time penalty, which dropped him behind Verstappen and dealt a blow to his championship hopes.

Speaking after the race, Norris expressed his frustration with Verstappen’s tactics, claiming that the Red Bull driver often pushes the limits of fair racing by forcing rivals off track. “It’s something we’ve seen from Max before,” Norris said. “He leaves no room and forces you off the circuit. I believe the FIA needs to look into this and create clearer rules to prevent such aggressive defensive moves.”

McLaren also backed their driver, stating that Verstappen’s move was unfair and that it compromised Norris’ ability to safely complete the overtaking maneuver. The team believes that Verstappen frequently takes advantage of the current regulations by pushing his car wide, leaving his competitors with no option but to go off track.

As the debate heats up ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, Norris hopes that the FIA will reconsider the racing guidelines. “We need clearer boundaries,” he added. “It’s not just about driving to the letter of the law; it’s about ensuring the races are fair and safe for everyone.”
