Tiger Woods back injury update made as PGA Tour players step up for charity event

PGA Tour players Max Homa and Gary Woodland step in for Tiger Woods at his charity event.

Tiger Woods was noticeably absent from his charity event at Pebble Beach today as PGA Tour players Max Homa and Gary Woodland stepped in for him.

Woods, 48, is currently sidelined from competitive action after having undergone the sixth back surgery of his career last month.

The 15-time major champion had a micro decompression on his spine to relieve pain.

There had been some hope the PGA Tour legend might be able to rock up at his charity event at famed Pebble Beach earlier today, but unfortunately he was unable to make it.

It is believed Woods is still having to rest and recover after his latest back surgery.

PGA Tour players Homa and Woodland were called in to run a clinic for guests.

Given Woods is unable to hit balls during a golf clinic right now, it would suggest his comeback to the PGA Tour is still some way off.

An update of Woods’ absence from his charity event was provided by the popular @TWLegion fan account on X / Twitter.

‘Doesn’t look like Tiger is in attendance for his charity event at Pebble Beach, likely a sign that his recovery is still in its early stages,’ tweeted TWLegion.

‘Woods had Max Homa and Gary Woodland running the clinic for guests.’

Homa and Woodland stepped in for Woods

Woods also underwent ankle surgery in 2023.

That came two years after his horror car crash in Los Angeles.

Woods played in all four majors in 2024 but he missed the cut in three of them and finished dead last in 60th of those that made the cut at The Masters.

After missing the cut in his last start of the year at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon, a deflated Woods admitted he would unlikely be playing again until the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie Woods in mid-December.

It remains to be seen whether Woods will be good to tee it up with his son in two months’ time.
