Charlie Woods has had his fair share of criticism after his poor performances. What started at the Cognizant Classic qualifiers, hasn’t really stopped. Now, with everyone so excited for his USGA debut, fans had high hopes, but only to get them crushed, that too very badly.

TWLEGION recently posted on X, the U.S. Junior Amateur’s round 1 scoreboard for Charlie, and the numbers did not look good. The post read the caption, “Things have gone the wrong way on the back nine with some big numbers.” And things had indeed gone wrong for the young golfer.

Tiger Woods’s son started strong by scoring even pars until hole 3, and after that, the game started changing course for the young golfer. A double bogey on hole 4 was followed by a birdie on hole 5, but then another bogey on hole 6. Talk about bad luck! The struggles continued, with several more bogeys and double bogeys piling up, ultimately leading to a disappointing round 1 score of 12-over-par 82.

As a result, the 15-year-old young golfer is now at T252 in a field of 264 golfers. He is tied with Thomas Meader, Jason Yu, and Xander Broderson. With his last name, fans expect a lot from the young lad, and lately, he has been under-delivering, to say the least.

He might not be performing so well, but he has been there with his father to motivate him to do better on the greens. He was present at the Masters, and the US Open to help TW practice his swing. Fans were not ready to let what happened at Oakland Hills CC go and took it to X to express their feelings and concerns for the 15-year-old golfer; some were sympathizing, and some were, well, let’s just say, not in his favor.

After noticing Charlie leaving the greens with his head down, one user wrote, “Long day out there for Team Woods.” It was clear from the look on Charlie’s face that he was upset with his score. However, his biggest teammate ever, his father, Tiger Woods, was there to cheer him up. No matter how much the 15x major champion wanted to coach his son, the rules did not let him.

One fan pointed out something that every fan should be aware of: “Please be kind. He is a kid. And it is difficult to be a public figure at that age.” And it is indeed difficult. Charlie is at the ripe age of 15 and has achieved a few titles on junior golf tours he plays; however, everyone must remember that he is still a kid who is trying to find his way in life and on the greens.

Another user pointed out the experience Charlie will have from this performance: “Good experience, and he’s competing with people 3 years older.” The 15-year-old golfer was in a field full of golfers older than him. For instance, Tyler Watts, who is currently leading the game, is 16, and Mason Howell, 17, is currently resting at T5. The fans believe competing against older golfers will shape Charlie’s s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s for the better.

One user had their friend at the venue of the U.S. Junior Amateur, and according to them, the greens were incredibly tough to play on. They sympathized with the young golfer and said, “Have a friend on site who says it’s playing incredibly difficult. Long with thick, rough.” It seems that Oakland Hills greens are proving to be just as tough for Charlie as they did for his father in 1996 at the season’s third major.

This user recognized Charlie’s efforts to qualify for the game and wished him luck for the next round. “Great achievement for him to get into the event in the first place. It’s his first USGA event with many eyes watching. He’ll learn a lot from this, and hopefully, people’s expectations of him can be realistic now. Hopefully he’s freed up now for tomorrow and can post a score”. Fans started expecting more from the golfer ever since he qualified for the tournament by scoring 1-under 71 as the medalist from his qualifier at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida.

Then came the blow: “He’s just not very good. Maybe one day he will be, but if it wasn’t for his dad, nobody would care about a mediocre at best junior golfer 🤷🏻‍♂️”. With his last name, fanscare about what he does a lot. People even think of him as the next Tiger Woods, and expect him to achieve the greater accolades than his father. One other fan commented on the similar lines, “How many kids better then Woods missed out on a spot because his name is Woods,” said the user.
