Red Bull announces Jos Verstappen’s return to the track: What’s going on with Max Verstappen’s dad?

Jos Verstappen to follow in son Max’s footsteps with rare Red Bull F1 drive

Jos Verstappen will be given the rare opportunity to follow in son Max’s footsteps and understand what it is like to drive a Red Bull.

Verstappen will figure in the ‘Legends Parade’ over the Austrian Grand Prix weekend later this month.

Unfortunately for Verstappen, he will not be behind the wheel of a car previously driven by his three-time F1 champion son.

But he will get to savour the thrill of driving a V8 as he will take to the Red Bull Ring in the 2012 RB8 that powered Sebastian Vettel to the third of his four successive F1 drivers’ titles he won with the team that year.

The ninth edition of the popular event will also significantly feature Emerson Fittipaldi driving his 1972 Lotus.

There is also Michael Schumacher’s 2002 Ferrari, a car that won that year’s Austrian Grand Prix in controversial circumstances as team-mate Rubens Barrichello led for almost the entire race until instructed to allow by the seven-time champion on the final lap.

On this occasion, Gerhard Berger will drive the car, with the Austrian joined on track by not only Fittipaldi and Verstappen but also David Coulthard in the RB1 from 2005, and Johnny Herbert in Elio de Angelis’ Lotus from 1982.

One of Max Verstappen’s cars, the RB14 from 2018, will be on view in the fan zone.
