CONSTANTINE 2 IN THE WORKS!

CONSTANTINE 2 – Full Trailer (2024) Keanu Reeves Movie | Warner Bros

“Constantine 2,” bringing back Keanu Reeves for a sequel to his 2005 film. The project’s progress comes amid the DC Universe reboot by James Gunn. Recently, the film got an update from a producer, highlighting its development as part of the DC Elseworlds, separate from Gunn and Peter Safran’s main DCU plans. The film promises to return the character of John Constantine, known as the Hellblazer, to the big screen in a significant way.

In a conversation with Comicbook.com, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura expressed optimism about “Constantine 2,” drawing parallels to his work on “Madame Web” and emphasizing the unique appeal of John Constantine. He shared his hopes for the sequel to proceed, underscoring the character’s distinctiveness.

A key revelation about “Constantine 2” is its classification as an Elseworlds movie. This distinction means it won’t intersect with James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe. Gunn himself has set high standards for Elseworlds projects, stating they must be extraordinary to justify their creation and investment. This approach hints that “Constantine 2” is on track to be something unique.

Moreover, “Constantine 2” is slated to be a full-fledged R-rated film. While the original was released with an R rating, director Francis Lawrence mentioned it was initially intended to be PG-13 at the studio’s behest. Freed from these constraints and not tied to the broader DCU, the sequel aims to explore a darker, more supernatural narrative that truly suits Reeves’ portrayal of the character.

The release date of the film has not been made public but most rumors are pointing to a 2025 or 2026 release.
