Cardi B shocked fans on Wednesday when she posted a troubling message on X f.k.a. Twitter. A tense back and forth with a troll eventually led the “Bodak Yellow” rapper to write about wanting to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 herself. This caused immediate concern among her legions of fans. Thankfully, Cardi took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to let everyone know that she was just “overwhelmed.” Though she’s OK, the New York native still feels “a little bit down,” so she’s taking some time for herself.
This all started in a since-deleted exchange, when someone tweeted that she was “the only Mexican I know that don’t work hard.” Cardi, who is Dominican and Trinidadian, replied, “Hope you and ur mom die.” When another user chastised her for wishing death on someone, the “Bongos” artist responded, “IDGAF Fuck y’all…y’all can call me Mexican, bring me down and hurt my feelings talk shit about everything that’s why I don’t release music.” The troubling part came when she added, “I just want to put a bullet in my head.”

First of all, if you think the Grammy winner doesn’t work hard, you clearly have no idea what it takes for a woman to be successful in hip-hop. She is one of the most popular artists in the world. How do you think that happened? Did Cardi cross a line by wishing death on someone and their mom? Yes, of course. However, when you have people trashing your art, appearance and family every day, you can only take so much before you hit your limit. In her Instagram Stories video, Cardi explains that she just had a “bad moment.”
“When I burst, I’m very outspoken,” she said. “When I get into one of my bad moments, I will literally curse everybody out, and I’ll be fuckin’ like, ‘I want you to die. Bitch, I wanna die.’ I don’t give a fuck! Because that’s just how I’ll be feeling in the moment.”
“I was just very overwhelmed yesterday,” she continued. “I was very sad. I feel like I was just having such a good week, and then, when I got home, and I started paying attention to so much shit that people were saying about me, and all the funny shit about me…I just started getting upset about it.”
It’s easy for people to forget that these larger than life personalities you see in TV, movies and on stage are real people with real feelings. We can all say Cardi should be above this and not concern herself with what trolls are saying, but she’s human, so she’s going to check social media. We all have our breaking points, and the current state of the world has pushed everyone well beyond them. I wish I could say this situation will be a wake up call to be kinder to one another, but that’s not how social media works. No matter when you read this, I guarantee someone is currently being awful to a total stranger. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to remember not everything requires your time. Just keep scrolling past the trash and live your best unbothered life.
