Robert Downey Jr‘s eye-popping fortune from starring as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been revealed.
The actor, 57, who is worth $66 million, earned critical acclaim for playing Tony Stark in a string of films from 2008 to 2019, before his character was tragically šš¾ššed off in Avengers: Endgame.
When Robert landed the role of Tony Stark, many fans were convinced the film would be a flop, given the poor track record of Marvel adaptations in the past.
However, it was a huge success and kickstarted the ever-expanding Marvel Universe, which includes the Avengers film series.
Robert’s role also kickstarted his own comeback in Hollywood, after he struggled with drug addiction and was sentenced to prison time for failing toĀ attend a court-ordered drugs test.

Marvel took a risk by casting Robert as Iron Man, given that at the time he was struggling in the wake of his drugs scandal, which caused him to be fired from Ally McBeal in 2001.
He went onto complete court-ordered drug treatment program and has remained clean and sober since 2003.
Robert was paid just $2.5 million (Ā£2m) for the 2008 film, and it was a huge hit grossing $585 million (Ā£485 million), earning critical acclaim for his performance as the hero.
Four years later, Robert earned over $50 million (Ā£41.5m) from the first Avengers film, and he also took home a percentage of the film’s $1.5 billion (Ā£1.2 billion) box office profits, making him Hollywood’s highest paid actor in 2013.
Robert then went onto earn another $75 million for the following two years thanks to his roles in Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
He went onto an estimated $33 million (Ā£27.4m) in 2016 as the face of the MCU, appearing in the film Captain America: Civil War that year.
The following year, he earned his biggest payday yet, $48 million (Ā£39m), as he reprised his role as Tony Stark in Spiderman: Homecoming.

Ahead of his final appearance as Tony Stark, Robert was given a base salary of $20 million (Ā£16.6m) for Avengers: Endgame.
He then netted another $55 million (Ā£45m) in ticket sales after the film became the highest-grossing in history with $2.8 billion (Ā£2.3 billion) at the box office.
Endgame marked Robert’s final appearance as Tony Stark, with his character dying after using the Infinity Gauntlet to defeat Thanos.
So far, Robert Downey Jr has now reportedly earned over $435 million (Ā£360m) through the MCU.
On top of this he also starred in two Sherlock Holmes films and Dolittle, and later this year he will star in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic Oppenheimer.
Recently, Robert also stunned fans when he unveiled an eye-catching new look while attending the Governor’s Awards.
He has been sporting a buzz cut in recent months, but he has now taken it one step further by showcasing the clean-shaven style.
