I’m an Arsenal legend and all-time fan favourite… I knew I could do whatever the f*** I wanted at Highbury

FEW PLAYERS are able to roam around the pitch doing whatever they want and still be loved by their fans.

But Thierry Henry reckons that’s why he was able to pull off magic during his time at Arsenal.

The Gunners legend is worshiped in the red side of North London and is already cast in bronze outside the Emirates Stadium.

But it’s the old home of the Arsenal that Henry remembers most fondly with the Frenchman spending his best years at Highbury.

And he’s revealed that the reason he was able to pull off audacious and incredible things week in week out was because he felt he had the license to do whatever he wanted at his home ground.

Perhaps remembered as one of his greatest Arsenal goals of all time, Henry recalled his stunning volley against Manchester United back in 2000 as an example.

Speaking on the “Kickin’ It” show, he said: “If you don’t try and make mistakes you will never succeed.

“I will give you the goal against Man United [as an example], so many times people say ‘why did you do that?’… because I knew at Highbury I could do what the f*** I wanted.”

Arsenal won the game 1-0 thanks to Henry’s daredevil effort from miles out leaving Fabien Barthez helpless in-between the sticks for United.

The ball was played into the silky forward’s feet and whilst holding off Denis Irwin with one hand, he flicked it up with his first touch before twisting and floating his effort into the top corner of Barthez’ net.

And perhaps Henry’s supreme confidence at Highbury explains the fact that no player bagged more goals in the N5 stadium than he did.

In fact nobody has scored more goals in ANY Premier League stadium than Henry’s 114 at Arsenal’s old stomping ground.
