Street football to Premier League: Nicolas Jackson’s road to Chelsea and his parents’ life in Senegal

Nicolas Jackson’s parents David, and Lynette Jackson, raised him in Ziguinchor, Southern Senegal. Jackson also has a supportive brother in Christian Valentim Dama.

Known as “Senegalese Neymar” in his hometown, Nicolas Jackson and his crazy nine-run game for Villarreal alerted the entirety of Europe of his talent. But Chelsea was quicker than the rest of the teams to sign the striker.

A player who had almost signed for Bournemouth during the winter transfer window, Jackson penned an eight-year contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the summer. But he isn’t the only new signing Stamford Bridge has welcomed this season.

Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo, Axel Disasi, and Lesley Ugochukwu are some of the other high-profile signings made by the London club. The striker made his PL debut against Liverpool on the opening day.

Jackson couldn’t get a goal but almost gave one away. But the controversial VAR review saved the striker from turning into a villain.

But Jackson’s performance was hailed by the Blues fans. The striker would love to prove himself further and warm up to Chelsea fans in the coming weeks.

Nicolas Jackson Parents, David, And Lynette Jackson

Nicolas Jackson’s parents David, and Lynette Jackson, are Senegalese but had their son in Banjul, The Gambia. And looking at Nicolas’ social media handle, it is clear the couple made their son not forget his roots.

Earlier this year, in July, the Chelsea striker shared a photo of him visiting Senegal and shared a few snaps with his beloved mother. He captioned the post, “A sons first true love.”

His former teammate at Mirandés, Carlos Julio Martínez, said Jackson had two goals. The first was to play in Primera, and the second was to earn a lot of money to help his family.

Back home in Senegal, they call Jackson “Senegalese Neymar,” so he already had a chip on his shoulder to prove himself on the world stage.

But he had previously been rejected by Benefica once during a trial. So Nicolas didn’t say anything to his mother before all the paperwork was done with Villareal.

Previously on his Instagram handle, Jackson shared a sweet tribute to his mother on her 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day. He shared a couple of photos, captioning the post, “May God continue to bless you, and we will make you proud by Gods grace.”

Nicolas Jackson Supportive Brother, Christian Valentim Dama

Though it isn’t clear how many siblings Nicolas has, the Chelsea defender has only ever shown Christian on his Instagram handle.

The two shared the same set of photographs to celebrate Lynette’s 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day in 2020. On his Instagram handle, Christian has shared pictures only related to Nicolas’ soccer achievements.

He shared a lengthy post thanking the Lord above after his brother debuted for Chelsea against Wrexham in the cup friendlies.

Christian currently lives in Senegal, and maybe he will soon move to London to support his brother. With an Instagram bio that reads, “There is nothing more special in the world than football,” the two brothers and their love for the game is clear as daylight.

Nicolas Jackson Career So Far

The new Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson’s professional soccer career started with the local side Casa Sport. He joined the Spanish side in Villarreal in 2019 when he was 17.

The Villareal president Fernando Roig saw him playing in the U-19 team and immediately ordered the club to sign up Nicolas. His former B team coach, Miguel, said Nicolas was levels above his teammates.

Nicolas was later sent out on loan to Mirandes, and the loan move didn’t pan out as Jackson or Villarreal wanted to. He only had one goal in 17 games. But Jackson later said the tough time at Mirandes shaped him for the better.

The staff in Villarreal said Jackson wasn’t the same person when he returned from his loan move. He was physically imposing, and a change in position helped him as well.

But the 2022 season at Villarreal didn’t start well. And by the time winter came, Nicolas wasn’t a guaranteed striker. But there was interest from abroad, and Bournemouth was ready with the money.

The clubs agreed on the deal, but Nicolas’ hamstring injury became a concern for the English side, and the deal collapsed. But after returning from injury, Nicolas exploded onto the scene with dazzling performances.

In the final nine games in La Liga, Nicolas scored nine goals and only failed to score or assist against Rayo. In that period, Nicolas outscored the whole of Europe, even the team he went on to join.
