‘You’re crazy’: Darwin Nunez can’t believe what £77m Real Madrid player messaged him on Instagram today

Darwin Nunez has labelled Federico Valverde ‘crazy’ after Uruguay’s win against Chile last night.

Nunez was one of the stars for his country as they ran out 3-1 winners in Montevideo. The Liverpool man provided two assists and was described as an ‘off-road tractor’ by the national media for his powerful performance.

It gave the Celeste the perfect start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, something the Liverpool striker acknowledged with his post-match Instagram update.

“We started the playoffs in the best way, winning at home to the joy of everyone,” Nunez wrote. “Thanks for the support.”

There were several famous faces in the replies, with former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez writing a heartfelt message of support.

Valverde was less ebullient, but his ‘Flying off’ comment still seemed to stir something within Nunez.

“You’re flying, you’re crazy brother,” replied the 24-year-old, complete with a flames emoji.

Valverde makes ‘crazy’ Nunez comment

With the likes of Valverde and Nunez in the team, Uruguay have some real talents to call upon right now.

Having started their qualifying campaign well, they’ll hope to kick on and make it to the 2026 World Cup. By that time, Darwin will still be just 27, with Valverde only a year older.

It will be interesting to note whether the former is still a Liverpool player by the time that tournament rolls around.

Having had a troubled year last time out, there were some whisperings that the Reds may look to cash in on Darwin. Thankfully though, this has been dismissed, with the Uruguayan now viewed as being ‘untouchable’ by Jurgen Klopp.

After staying put, there was also a possibility of Nunez being joined at Liverpool by his mate from the national team, Valverde.

Throughout the summer, the Reds were linked with the Real Madrid man. There were even claims of enquiries being made direct to Madrid and to Valverde himself, all of which were reportedly rebuffed.

Had he been signed for the reported £77m figure [Daily Mail], the 25-year-old would have been a super addition. It now looks an impossibility, though. At least we get to see him link-up with Darwin on the international stage, hey.
