Fichajes reports that Chelsea and Liverpool are still interested in signing Federico Valverde. It was reported that two Premier League teams were competing for Real Madrid’s midfielder. No relocation occurred over the summer.
The Uruguayan has scored 18 goals and assisted on 15 more in 208 games since joining Los Blancos from Penarol for under £4.3 million in 2016. Valverde scored 12 goals in 56 games for Ancelotti’s team last season, and they went on to win the Copa del Rey, Club World Cup, and UEFA Suρer Cup.
Valverde has become one of the world’s best lynchpins, so it’s no surprise that he was linked with a move to an English Premier League club this summer. It was reported that several clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, were interested in signing the Uruguayan international.
All three clubs were concerned about being priced out of a move for Valverde, 25, who was under contract at the Bernabeu until 2027 and ultimately decided to stay put.
Valverde “half regrets having made this decision,” as the “best thing he could have done is to have packed his bags” for a move to the Premier League this past summer. Carlo Ancelotti decided to rest the Uruguayan international in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Getafe, in which Jude Bellingham scored the game-winning goal to extend the team’s incredible start to the season.
The reports state that Valverde has accepted the fact that he will not be a “undisputed starter” for Real Madrid this season. The Uruguayan midfielder continues to attract interest from clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea, and Fichajes suggests that despite his importance to Ancelotti, the club views him as a high-value, saleable asset that could be used to offset losses and pay for Kylian Mbappe’s arrival next summer.
Both of the Premier League heavyweights, Liverpool in particular, have made significant upgrades to their midfield engine rooms this summer. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch have all just joined the Reds.
Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Andrey Santos joined Chelsea, while another youngster, Deivid Washingtоn, arrived from Santos on transfer deadline day. That’s why it’s important to view rumors of their persistent interest in Valverde with a grain of salt.
