Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth, who hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2022, was left out of Keegan Bradley’s 12-man team for next month’s Ryder Cup in New York

Jordan Spieth’s hopes of contending for a stellar $10 million FedEx Cup prize and making the Ryder Cup team, with captain Keegan Bradley making his six picks on Wednesday, were both dealt crushing setbacks at the recent FedEx St. Jude Championship.
At TPC Southwind in Memphis, the 32‑year‑old, who Gary Player said was taught one thing incorrectly by his coaches, waved goodbye to his season for the second year in a row, finishing T‑38 and falling outside the top 50 needed to advance to the BMW Championship and keep alive his $10 million race.
That marked yet another missed opportunity for the 2015 champion – and things got even worse for Spieth on Wednesday when he was left out of Team USA’s Ryder Cup squad.
Spieth admitted that making Team USA was “my loftiest goal to start the season.”
He said ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs: “I was coming in with almost no carryover points from ‘24, which hurts, and it was unusual for me for a Ryder Cup year.
“And then obviously skipping the first month of the season and starting late, I just thought, ‘You know, boy, this would be the end goal.’ And the idea that I have a chance for it is very cool.”
Spieth knew how special it would be to make Bradley’s team this year, adding: “It’d be incredible. I’ve played in five of them. They’re the coolest events that you can play in, in a sport. And I’d love to play in another five if I can or more.
“This one will be special, being at Bethpage. I played the PGA really well there. And obviously, your Long Island crowd and tri-state area, coming and representing your country there, would be the mecca of what you can do for a home game.”
Spieth added some humor to the pressure, joking that he’s been nudging Bradley not to select himself so another spot could open up.

“I keep trying to convince Keegan that, you know, it’d be a lot for him to have to play, too, so he probably should give up that pick, even if he is a top 10 player, top seven player in the world,” said Spieth. “It just seems like way too much to have to do!
“So, trying to open up all the opportunities I can, but I can also go take care of business myself.”
But the Memphis result all but confirmed what pundits had feared: Spieth was not going to make the Ryder Cup squad.
With Bradley’s roster fully announced on Wednesday, the chances have evaporated.
Bradley opted not to take himself as a playing captain, choosing six talented players instead — Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns — to join six automatic qualifiers: Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Bradley said the decision to exclude himself was heartbreaking, but he believed it was in the best interest of the team.
