World Championship leader Oscar Piastri addresses relationship with teammate Lando Norris

Australia’s Oscar Piastri has opened up about his relationship with McLaren stablemate Lando Norris as the fight for 2025 Drivers’ Championship title heats up.

The Victorian driver currently leads the F1 championship with 14 of the 24 races completed this season.

Still just 24, Piastri has scored six triumphs so far in 2025 and is the the favourite to win F1’s ultimate prize.

While team intra-team rivalries have often spilled off the the track in the past, Piastri says his relationship with Norris is strong.

‘It’s an interesting dynamic, I think,’ Piastri told formula.1.com.

‘I think we both feel there’s not really any tension. Well, there’s not any tension at all, really. I think we get on very well.

Piastri says the McLaren drivers have an interesting dynamic

‘We’re building waffle towers and doing silly stuff on Thursdays but obviously once we get on track, then the business starts and we’re both very determined to try and win and try and get as many points as we can.

‘There’s definitely kind of two sides to it but if there’s tension in wanting to beat each other, it never spills out off the track, which I think is a nice thing.

‘It is an interesting dynamic in how it kind of changes and flows. We’ve always gotten on well, so I don’t think that’ll change.’

Piastri said the narrowing gap between himself and Norris doesn’t concern him.

‘The pace for the first half of the year has been very, very strong and I think the last few races as well have been very good,’ Piastri said.

‘I feel like I’ve driven a lot of strong races, and it’s been very tightly fought.

‘So, I expect more of the same after the break.’

Last week it was revealed that Piastri will have a grandstand named after him at the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit in Melbourne next year.

The Aussie currently leads the F1 championship with 14 of the 24 races completed this season

The Piastri Grandstand will be located on the main straight, opposite pit lane.

The Fangio Grandstand will remain, with the structure growing in capacity and sectioned into two – Piastri and Fangio, with the Piastri Grandstand incorporating the most premium and sought after seats closest to the start line.

Piastri will join a number of other Australian drivers who have a grandstand named after them, including Jack Brabham, Arthur Waite, Alan Jones, Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber.

‘I’m very excited by the news that I’ll have my own grandstand at next year’s Australian Grand Prix,’ said Piastri.

‘It feels very surreal, and I never thought this would happen but the support is incredible and I can’t wait to see it all come together next March.

‘Seeing all the fans in my own grandstand directly opposite the McLaren garage is going to be an amazing experience and I’m really looking forward to feeling the energy and the atmosphere.’
