Bruce Dern, who played the menacing Asa Watts, remains a beacon of hope as he continues to thrive at 87, a rare survivor from the film’s ensemble. Meanwhile, Colleen Dewhurst, the compassionate Kate Collingwood, passed away from cervical cancer in 1991 at 67, her warmth forever etched in the memories of audiences.

Alfred Barker Jr. and Nicholas Bovie, who portrayed young cowboys Dan and Slim Honeycut respectively, also met their tragic ends, with Barker passing away at 65 in 1996 and Bovie succumbing to illness in 2023.
