Before the Oilers’ game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Dec. 6, Edmonton captain Connor McDavid was honored in a pre-game ceremony at Rogers Place for reaching his 1,000th NHL career point. His family, including wife Lauren Kyle, parents, and their dog Lenny, joined him on the ice.
Connor McDavid became the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points, achieving this milestone in just 659 games. His accomplishment places him alongside hockey legends Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy.
McDavid received a golden stick and a custom-engraved Rolex watch from his teammates. On Tuesday, Lauren Kyle posted a carousel of pictures on her Instagram from the memorable night.
“Here is to another 1000 ahead! I’m so proud of you and all of your hard work. Love you so much ♥️”, she wrote in the caption.
In one of the pictures, Lauren was wearing a burgundy leather trench coat with a belted waist and carrying a textured handbag. Another showed her with Connor and Lenny in a hallway before the game, with Connor dressed in a light gray suit and brown shoes.
Other photos included a close-up of Connor and his mother, Kelly, during the ceremony, and a group photo of the family on the ice in front of a floral display and a tribute to “1,000 points”. Connor can be seen sharing a kiss with Lauren in one of the pictures.
Lenny, their Bernedoodle, was also featured in multiple images, including one where he sat calmly on the arena floor wearing a custom bone locket that read “1000”. Lauren also posted a picture of Connor’s parents sitting in the audience with Lenny on the floor, wearing a Oilers jersey this time.
In a mirror selfie, Lauren Kyle posed with Celeste Desjardins, fiance of Leon Draisaitl, and a couple of friends including Liv Hall. Another picture saw her posing with Lenny while they enjoyed the game. She also shared a clip when their Bernedoodle was shown in the big screen at Rogers Place.
Connor McDavid opens up on sharing the moment with his family
After the golden stick ceremony, Connor McDavid was asked to reflect on his experience. The Oilers captain made sure to recognize the role of his family and expressed how important it was to have them by his side during such a big moment in his career.
“It’ll be nice to have some family out there,” McDavid said. “It’s nice to see them get recognized as well. They’ve had just a big a hand in this as anybody. It’s nice to have them here and see them out there on the ice.
McDavid also talked about his dog, Lenny, saying that Lenny is like family to him. He mentioned how the Bernedoodle has always been a great source of comfort to him, especially after tough games.
