Lakers PERFECT Trade to COMPLETE Their Roster? | Lakers BEST Trade Target at Every Position!

As the NBA trade deadline approaches in early February, speculation around potential trades for the Los Angeles Lakers intensifies. Despite recent improvements, including a strong defensive performance that has seen them rank as the number one defense in the league over their last five games, the Lakers still have gaps in their roster that could benefit from strategic trades.

The Lakers’ management is tasked with identifying players who not only fit their team’s needs but also come at a reasonable cost. With the current climate of the NBA and the constraints imposed by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), acquiring a star player is unlikely and, many believe, not advisable. Instead, the focus should be on adding role players who can enhance the team’s overall performance.

At the point guard position, Malcolm Brogdon emerges as a potential target. Brogdon, while not a necessity unless the Lakers decide to trade D’Angelo Russell, offers a solid defensive presence and an impressive shooting record, boasting a career three-point shooting average of 39%. However, his history of injuries and age (he’s now 32) are concerns that could complicate such a trade.

The shooting guard spot is somewhat crowded with emerging talents like Max Christie, but Cody Martin could be an option if the Lakers decide to pursue additional depth. Martin’s defensive capabilities are noteworthy, as he leads his current team, the Charlotte Hornets, in defensive metrics. His rebounding s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s also add value, although his inconsistent three-point shooting raises questions about his fit.

For the small forward position, Dorian Finney-Smith presents a compelling case. He offers versatility on defense, able to guard multiple positions, and is currently shooting a career-high 45.2% from beyond the arc. However, his expiring contract poses a risk, as he could leave the team without a return if negotiations don’t go well.

The power forward position could see interest in Cam Johnson, known for his elite three-point shooting. Averaging around 19 points per game, Johnson would be a strategic fit alongside stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His age (28) also aligns well with the team’s core timeline. However, the competition for his services is expected to be fierce, potentially driving the cost beyond what the Lakers are willing to pay.

At center, Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons could be a controversial yet beneficial addition. Known for his tenacity and defensive capabilities, Stewart would bolster the Lakers’ already impressive defense. He can protect the rim and switch defensively across multiple positions, making him a versatile asset. Nevertheless, the trade cost could be high, and the prior conflict with LeBron James might present challenges in team chemistry.

As the trade deadline looms, the Lakers must weigh their options carefully. Identifying suitable trade targets that align with their needs while also being mindful of cost will be crucial. The decisions made in the coming weeks could significantly impact the team’s trajectory as they aim for a playoff push. Fans are eager to see which direction the front office will take and how these potential trades could reshape the Lakers’ roster for the remainder of the season.
